Kavita Dulai is a scientist passionate about clear concise communication and engaging storytelling in the world of science and data. She believes that one of the solutions to climate change begins with individual action. She is keen on simplifying and speaking on the complexities of sustainability,  global warming, and environmentalism in ‘simple everyday language’.  She is also privileged to work across the NHS whose national ambition is to deliver the world’s first net zero health service and respond to climate change.  Kavita explains how we can all individually play our part in tackling climate change.  Listen to find out more!

Having a Bucket List

This week Roger Williams, (no relation), shares his passion about the benefits of living an intentional life through crossing items off his bucket list and helping others do the same.  His mission is in supporting others to intentionally live out their bucket list as a great way to build confidence, get outside their bubble and bring themselves joy. He recently completed a three-month journey travelling around the world to cross items off his bucket list, and today he is featured on this podcast.

"My Uncle Robert" – A Remembrance Day Special

Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.  This weeks' guest, Beulah Coombs, shares the true story of a World War 1 Jamaican soldier and how, through a series of amazing and incredible coincidences, his family came to discover his fate, nearly 100 years after his death, her Uncle Robert.  She is a former teacher, lecturer and now author of the book – My Uncle Robert: The True Story of a Forgotten Jamaican World War 1 Soldier.

Exhile Music – A Book by Jennifer Steil

Jennifer Steil is an award-winning author and journalist who has lived in many countries. Her third book, the novel Exhile Music, was released by Viking in May 2020. It follows the lives of a family of Austrian Jewish musicians who seek refuge from the Nazis in Bolivia in 1938. Tracing Family History

My guest this week is Paul Crooks who pioneered research into African Caribbean genealogy during the 1990s.  He traced his family history from London, back 6 generations, to ancestors captured of the West African coast and enslaved on a sugar plantation in Jamaica.

Paul gained national recognition for his work when his acclaimed historical novel Ancestors  was published in 2002. He appeared on Who Do You Think You Are? (Moira Stuart) as the expert in African Caribbean genealogy. His second book A Tree Without Roots is the seminal guide to tracing African, British and Asian Caribbean ancestry.  Listen to find out more!
